Steps

1

Season the ground beef with salt and pepper and shape into a flat patty.

~5 min

2

Heat oil in a pan and cook the patty 3-4 minutes per side.

~7 min

Watch out: Flipping too often lets the juices escape and dries the patty out — wait for one side to brown before flipping just once.

3

Slice the tomato and wash and drain the lettuce.

~2 min

4

Warm the tortilla briefly in the pan.

~1 min

Why: A warmed tortilla tears less and is easier to roll.

5

Spread ketchup and mustard on the tortilla, layer on the patty, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, then roll it up.

~3 min

Tips

  • Add the cheese right when the patty comes off the heat so it melts naturally onto it.

  • A 2:1 ratio of ketchup to mustard keeps the flavor kid-friendly.

  • For lunchboxes, wrap it halfway in parchment paper for easy handling.

Storage

Best eaten fresh right after assembling. The patty alone can be cooked ahead and refrigerated up to 2 days.
